Abstract
Optimum design analyses are presented for ring stiffened cylindrical shells subjected to an external uniform hydrostatic pressure for eight types of ring supported cylinders. Experimental results are included for rectangular ring stiffened shells that demonstrate the validity of the analyses. Optimum configurations are calculated by minimum weight analysis, and sufficient information is presented for design of either optimum or nonoptimum configurations.
