This work deals with developing a prediction method of wear rate during wet stirred milling on the basis of grinding media motion simulated by distinct element method (DEM) simulation. An experimental study was carried out to measure the wear rate during wet stirred mill and to discuss the correlation between the wear rate and motion of media. Effects of grinding media diameter, rotational speed and material of stirring pin on the wear rate were investigated experimentally. The wear rate increases with increasing in the grinding media diameter and rotational speed of stirred mill. The material of the stirring pin was found to influence on the wear rate. A wear work, which is a parameter to be correlated with the wear rate, was defined and calculated by DEM simulation. The wear work increases with increasing in media diameter and rotational speed. This tendency is quite similar the wear rate measured in the experiment. The wear work is found to be correlated with the wear rate, irrespective of the media diameter and rotational speed of mill.
