Relative efficiency of a radiophotoluminescent glass (RPLG, product name: SC-1) was examined forHe, C, Ne, Si, Ar, andFebeams and γ-rays from60Coand137Cssources. Although dose dependency was not seen under 10-100mGy-water exposure, a strong LET dependency was observed. The RPL efficiency decreased almost proportionally with the logarithm of the infinite LET in water from 0.5 to 200keVμm-1.These results suggest that the value of RPLG obtained as γ-ray equivalent should underestimate the absorbed dose where heavy charged particles are mixed like in space. It is expected, however, to utilize RPLG for the evaluation of radiation quality by combining other detectors having different LET dependencies.
