Indonesia, as one of the major tea and coffee producers in the world, is projected to further increase its production in the coming years to meet the steadily growing global demand. To increase productivity, all the stakeholders involved in the cultivation and production process have options such as expanding planting areas, intensifying production, or various combinations of the two. Furthermore, growers must pro-actively counter any potential crop losses caused by projected changes in the climatic conditions. Using the two main elements incorporated in the Terroir approach, complemented with consideration for the socio-economic conditions of each cultivation area, a sustainable increase in productivity can be achieved.
