The influence of welding parameters (rotational speed, welding speed) on the surface roughness of FSW joints was examined to find out the value of minimum surface roughness of FSW joints, and it was found that the surface roughness significantly affects the fatigue of the welded joint. The quality of an FSW joint depends greatly on the tool used and the welding parameters. The geometry of the tool is a determining factor in the heat distribution and the amount of metal entrained by the tool. However, the feed rate, the rotational speed of the tool, the distance between the pin and the root of the joint, the vertical force exerted by the tool and the inclination of the shoulder with respect to the surface of the joint are process parameters that influence the quality of the seal. In this study, we measured the roughness of a 120 mm-long weld joint in five parts, with great importance given to the starting part and the end part of the welding tool.
