Articulation in erect bryozoans is known from the Ordovician to the Recent, and is developed in a number of Palaeozoic Orders. In the Order Cryptostomata, articulation is largely confined to some members of the Suborder Ptilodictyina and the Family Arthrostylidae of the Suborder Rhabdomesina, and was previous noted in the sole genus of the Family Bactroporidae. Articulation is reported herein in the Family Rhabdomesidae for the first time. The new genus Pharopora from the Mississippian of Ireland is characterised by zoaria composed of branches with regular internodes and conical-shaped articulating terminations.
