2016, Surgical Pathology ClinicsCitation Excerpt :Also known as gelatinous transformation, serous atrophy is characterized by increased gelatinous extracellular material with fat atrophy and marrow hypoplasia, which is commonly associated with starvation and cachexia. The morphologic changes seen after myeloablative therapy,7,8 including edema and deposition of fibrin, may mimic serous atrophy but are an uncommon finding. The edema and fibrin deposition are transient and should resolve over time.
