Abstract

Sorption properties of the pine bark treated with a 5% urea solution have been studied with respect to heavy metals Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), and Pb(II). The bark subjected to treatment has higher sorption properties and retains several times as many metals as the untreated bark. Parameters of the Langmuir and Freundlich sorption isotherms were obtained. The possible mechanisms of the bark interaction with urea and reasons for an enhanced metal adsorption on the bark treated with urea solution have been also discussed.
