Abstract

Case Report

A 19 year-old female college student presented to her pediatrician’soffice after experiencing three weeks of fatigue, abdominalpain, and nausea. At that time, the patient was diagnosed witha urinary tract infection and a viral illness and was given aprescription for Keflex. Over the next three days, the patient’ssymptoms worsened, and she developed weakness, shortnessof breath, and anorexia. She also noticed yellowing of her skinand darkening of her urine, which prompted her to go to theemergency department at an outside hospital. At the outsidehospital, many laboratory results were abnormal and her clinicalcondition worsened. She was transferred to the intensive careunit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) for furtherevaluation and treatment.
