Summary

The European Society of Cardiology published its new guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic heart failure (HF) in 2021. In the following, we will summarise the main messages of the new recommendation on the terminology, diagnostic criteria, drug and device based treatment of chronic heart failure, with particular reference to the changes and novelties compared to the previous guideline.
