This study is prepared to provide a Korean language and culture education scheme by making use of vocabulary as well as culture education through “Mask Dance”, which has not yet been keenly researched in Korean language education. “Mask Dance” is a play of the public and is a genre that helps to understand both the flow of Korean society’s consciousness and the historical circumstances of that era by taking a look at the society from the perspective of the public. Besides, if one understands the Korean way of thinking, sense of values, consciousness, and the flow of social affairs through “Mask Dance”, it is believed that understanding Korean culture will be much simpler since Korean thoughts and values are conveyed by the public. If Korean language education is conducted using “Mask Dance”, it is advantageous for learning Korean vocabulary as well as a variety of culture education. It can help to increase the vocabulary capacity through learning homonyms, synonyms, proverbs, idioms, collocations and various rhetoric methods. Moreover, it can also help to learn advanced level Korean expressions accompanied by enthusiasm. The Korean society can be understood through culture education and the discords that arise within families founded on the Korean historical flow. Furthermore, by the movements of the “Mask Dance”, harmony and oneness can be felt and the Korean special ‘Sinmyeong-Puli’ in which all family discords are relieved through dance, can also be understood. Likewise, Korean cultural symbolic representations could be identified through the colors and appearances of the mask. Strong thrill and pleasure can be felt from the non-verbal actions displayed by the powerful movements of “Mask Dance” and along with it a well-matched culture could be observed. Hence, its practical application will make the teaching learning process of Korean language and culture more exciting and natural.
