Two different species of
parrots (Nymphicus hollandicus and Amazona amazonica) with severe itching
and feather pecking especially in the evening were submitted to the Ankara
University Parasitology clinic at different times. No clinical symptoms other
than intense moulting and erythematous papules formed in these areas has been
observed in physical examination.
According
to the anemnesis and clinical findings, ectoparasite examination was accepted. For
this purpose, both parrots and cages and equipment have been carefully examined
and a large number of mites smaller than 1 mm have been detected.
Microscopic analysis of the collected mite
samples revealed to be Dermanyssus
gallinae
.
In this case report, in domestic poultry, when the symptoms with
pruritus and cannibalism are observed, it is concluded that they should be
examined in terms of ectoparasites as well as nutritional deficiencies and
breeding errors.

Nymphicus hollandicus ve Amazona amazonica türlerine ait, iki papağan, sahiplerinin şiddetli
kaşıntı, kanibaliktik davranışlar fark etmesi üzerine Ankara Üniversitesi
Veteriner Fakültesine Parazitoloji kliniğine getirilmişlerdir. Fiziksel
Toplanan akar numunelerin
mikroskobik analizi sonucunda Dermanyssus
gallinae
