How do counselling trainees describe group process and does this change over time

This dataset came from students on a master's programme for counselling children and young people (N=35). It was collected by using surveys at the mid-term (N=35) and end-term (N=35) of their first year of training for the purposes of studying the way the students described their experience of a process group. A process group is also known as a personal development group and is used in counselling to support students in their personal and professional development as counsellors. The variables were masters students at the mid-term and end-term of the first year of training and they were collected to see if change occurred in how students described group process at the middle and the end of the year. The units of these variables are taken to be individual words, sentences, and phrases from the qualitative survey data that were then analysed using a content analysis, which was a method of counting the number of phrases and words in specific content categories, which were "understanding group process", "personal experience of group process", "group cohesion", and "counselling skills and development". The data was then analysed by two coders, who were senior lecturers in counselling and psychology, into the categories stated under the heading of "negative", "neutral", and "positive" within each content category, to monitor if the language to describe group process differed between groups and changed over time as well as to study if the quality of positive, neutral and negative descriptions was different between groups and overtime. The reason for this was to add to research that examines qualitative experiences of process groups to understand if the qualitative data is static or changing over time. This could help to clarify the nature of process groups.
