초록

경제성장에는 항상 지역간 격차가 있어왔다. 1960년대 이후 발생하기 시작한 선진 공업국의 탈 공업화로 인한 사회·경제적 위기로부터 회복하는 데에도 지역간, 도시간 상당한 격차가 있어 왔다. 이러한 격차에 대한 전통적 이론은 “자원의 불균등한 배분”으로 설명하곤 하였다. 그러나 유사한 수준의 자원을 가진 지역간에도 상당한 성장격차가 있다는 사실을 감안할 때, 그러한 전통적 이론에 문제가 있다는 것이 확인되고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 최근 성장과 회복에 있어서의 격차를 설명하는 새로운 이론이 대두되고 있다. 진화론적 경제이론에 근거한 경로이론과 회복력 개념이 그 대표적인 예이다. 이 논문은 그러한 이론의 출현 배경과 특징, 유용성 등을 비교·분석한다. 이 두 이론은 아직 객관화된 판단의 근거를 개발하지는 못했지만, 종전의 이론이 가진 한계점을 보완하고 다양한 사회현상을 설명하는 하나의 대안으로써 설득력이 있어서, 비(非)계량적 연구방법이 충분히 발달하지 못한 우리 학계의 발전에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다
