ANATOMY APPLIED TO CHOLECYSTECTOMY

Cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder, being recommended mainly in cases of cholecystitis and gallbladder neoplasms. Gallbladder removal surgeries have been described for about a century in the medical literature. ¹, the techniques currently used are laparotomy or laparoscopy. The latter is the least invasive technique and is considered the gold standard, but laparotomy is important in cases where adequate medical equipment is not available, in urgent cases and when laparoscopy is not indicated. The risks of postoperative complications in both procedures are low, influenced by the nature of the surgery, age and the presence of comorbidities in the patient. Complications arising from the surgery itself are around 3.9% for patients undergoing laparotomy and 1.7% for those who opted for laparoscopy, while systemic complications are 5.2% for laparotomy and 1.6 % for laparoscopy.
