2015 marks 50 years since the launch of the world’s first commercial scanning electron microscope – the Cambridge Instrument Company (CIC) Stereoscan. A name which has almost become a generic title for any SEM. How did this come about and what contributed to this seminal development in the world of microscopy and the evolution of a whole family of related electron optical products?
