Experimental study of toxic waste incineration

The project dealt with an experimental study of toxic waste incineration. Experiments were conducted in a combustion-driven turbulent flow reactor, burning premixed air and propane. Residence times, temperatures, and equivalence ratios typical of hazardous waste incinerators were attained in the flow reactor. Ethyl chloride was injected downstream of the flame zone, and samples were withdrawn at various points along the reactor. These samples were analyzed using a Fourier Transform Infrared spectrometer coupled with a long path cell. 8 refs., 37 figs., 4 tabs.
