A spelling corrector for use in text-to-speech synthesis for English

Briony Williams, Franziska Maier

Current spelling correction methods for phonetically-based errors make use of a whole-word dictionary. An algorithm has been implemented which uses a fully morphological lexicon, and so can handle many newly-coined words. The lexical entries of phonetically misspelled words are located, and the correct orthographic form is thus obtained. Keywords: Lexicon, interpreting written language, text-to-speech systems.
