대학로 연극 환경에 대한 클러스터 분석 논의

대학로의 외·내부 위협은 어제 오늘의 일이 아니다. 현재 대학로의 연극인들은 생존에 대한 심각한 문제에 처해있다. 즉 대학로에서 연극을 제작하고 운영한다는 것 자체가 어렵다는 것이다. 연극인들은 이러한 현실을 벗어나고자 임대료가 비교적 저렴한 인근 지역으로 이동하거나, 아니면 새로운 연극 밀집촌이 시도되고 있는 실정이다.
연구자는 이러한 연극인들의 탈 대학로 현상이 이전에도 되풀이 되고 있다는 점에 주목하였다. 한국의 연극 환경에서 연극인들은 언제나 상업화의 위협 속에 예술과 생존을 걱정하는 처지에서 벗어날 수 없는 구조적인 문제에 의문을 가졌기 때문이다.
먼저 대학로가 처한 문제를 파악하기 위해 클러스터 관점에서 접근하고자하였다. 즉 클러스터 이론을 바탕으로 연극 예술에 대한 집적 특성과 도시적 측면에서 대학로 환경성을 이해하고자하였는데, 대학로가 처한 위협은 단순한 경제 논리로만 해석하기에는 현실적인 한계를 가지기 때문이다. 또한 예술성과 대중·상업적 속성이 혼재되어 모호함을 야기한 경우가 적지 않았다. 이러한 특성은 연극에 대한 지원 정책과 시장 파악에 대한 또 다른 접근이 필요하다고 판단하였다.
따라서 이러한 대학로의 문제점을 되짚어 보기 위해서는 연극 분야의 집적 과정과 도시 환경의 연관성이 왜 중요한지를 파악하고자하였고, 대학로의 특성을 문화클러스터 접근을 통해 이해하고자하였다. 결국 대학로에 대한 클러스터 분석은 현재 당면한 현안이나 문제에 대한 또 다른 정책적 가능성을 모색하고자한 것이다.

The internal and external threats to Daehangno are not recent problem. Currently, the performers of Daehangno are in serious danger regarding their survival. In other words, it is difficult to produce and maintain plays in Daehangno. In order to escape from this reality, theatrical performers move to places with relatively cheap rent, or try to make a new theater clusters. The researcher focused on the phenomenon of the theatrical performers’ exodus from Daehangno, which has been repeated in the past. In the Korean theater environment, theatrical performers can not escape from the worries about art and survival due to the structural problems created by the threat of commercialization.
First, in order to understand the problems of Daehangno, the cluster point of view was approached. In other words, based on the cluster theory, I tried to understand the accumulated characteristics of the theater arts and the environmental aspects of Daehangno in terms of urbanity, because the threat that Daehangno is in has realistic limitations and cannot be understood with simple economic logic. In addition, there were some cases where ambiguity was caused by the mixture of artistic characteristics and public and commercial properties. These characteristics were considered to require a different approach to the support policies and market grasp of plays. Therefore, in order to examine the problems of Daehangno, this paper tried to understand why the correlation between theater clusters and the urban environment is important and the characteristics of Daehangno through the cultural cluster approach. In conclusion, the cluster analysis of Daehangno aims to find other policy possibilities for the currently pending issues and problems.
