    Editorial

    Editorial

Academia Nano: Science, Materials, Technology, launched in 2024, is an open access journal aiming to provide a multidisciplinary dissemination platform for researchers in nanoscience, nanomaterials and nanotechnologies, helping to drive innovation, promote blue-sky discoveries and new understandings of physical and chemical processes at the nanoscale, with the view to accelerate the development of nanomaterials and nano-devices with potential to transform industries or improve the quality of life.

The structure of Academia Nano includes the following broad topical sections:

    • Synthesis, structure, and chemistry at the nanoscale
    • Advanced characterization methods for nanoscience
    • Nanophotonics, optoelectronics, quantum dots and wires
    • Van der Waals materials, interfaces and twistronics, topological materials
    • Nanomagnetism and spintronics
    • Nano for sensors, detectors, and quantum technologies
    • Thin films, membranes, and coatings
    • Nano-fluidics
    • Nanoscience for energy
    • Nanocomposites
    • Environmental nanoscience and biology
    • Nanomedicine and health applications

In addition to original research papers, each of those will host special issues (overseen by esteemed guest editors) for addressing niche topics and emerging trends, as well as selected review articles and communications.

Academia Nano is designed to offer our authors fast turnaround and robustness of peer review process, aiming at both novelty and rigor of experimental findings, modelling approaches, and conclusions. The dedicated editorial office is set to speed up the publishing process, including the initial screening of the submitted manuscripts, before sending those to the referees. For the accepted papers, the journal will use the Academia.edu platform to ensure broad dissemination to its diverse, truly global audience of over 250 million users and beyond, including researchers in academia and industry, students, end-users, public and policy makers.

    Prof. Dr. Vladimir Fal'ko, Editor-in-Chief

Vladimir Fal'ko is a condensed matter theorist who made fundamental contributions towards the understanding of quantum transport in nanoelectronic structure and the physical properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials, including graphene, 2D transition transition metal dichalcogenides, simple-metal chalcogenides, moiré superlattice effects in 2D materials and 2D material twistronics. During 2014–2021, he was the founding Editor-in-Chief of the IoP 2D Materials Journal, and he was among the initiators and leaders of the European Graphene Flagship Project (2013–2023). Currently Fal'ko is Director of the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester.
