Fotografías de Arquitectura : análisis de los Archivos y Colecciones de Madrid

Resumen

La fotografía es DOCUMENTO, es MEMORIA, es HISTORIA, forma parte de nuestro patrimonio cultural y como tal tenemos la obligación de conservarla y difundirla. Desde sus orígenes la fotografía ha servido para trasmitir la arquitectura, convirtiéndose en una herramienta fundamental en el conocimiento de la misma. Esta tesis pretende ensalzar el valor de estas imágenes y de los archivos que las custodian, auténticas “cajas de la memoria” que atesoran los registros de nuestra arquitectura y de nuestra historia. A lo largo de esta investigación analizaremos los fondos de doce importantes instituciones madrileñas tratando de descubrir qué tipo de fotografías de arquitectura podemos encontrar en ellas y quienes fueron los profesionales que las realizaron. A través de estas imágenes y de las de otros destacados archivos españoles recorreremos la historia de este género fotográfico . Una historia aún por escribir en la que brillan con luz propia los nombres de Clifford, Laurent, Mas, Wunderlich, Passaporte, Ortiz Echagüe, Lladó, Kindel, Pando, Paco Gómez o Català-Roca y con la que mostraremos que su desarrollo en nuestro país no fue muy distinto al descrito en los libros canónicos de la historia de la fotografía de arquitectura. En este viaje h e buscado también sacar a la luz imágenes olvidadas y abandonadas; imágenes que documentan la arquitectura, que trasmiten emociones, que hacen volar nuestra imaginación, pero sobre todo, imágenes que perdurarán como la memoria de algo que ha existido y que existirá para siempre en ellas. ----------ABSTRACT---------- Photography is DOCUMENT, MEMORY, HISTORY. It is part of our cultural heritage and as such we have an obligation to preserve and spread it. Photography has since its beginning helped disseminate architecture, and therefore has become a fundamental tool in the knowledge of architecture. The objective of this thesis is to honour these images and of the archives that store them. These archives are genuine “memory boxes” that shelter the records of our architecture and our history. Throughout this research we will analyze the files from twelve important institutions in Madrid. We try to discover the kind of architectural photographs that they store, and who were the professionals that took those pictures. We will cover the history of this photographic genre through these images from Madrid and from other outstanding Spanish archives. A history still to be written in which the names of Clifford, Laurent, Mas, Wunderlich, Passport, Ortiz Echague, Llado, Kindel, Pando, Paco Gomez or Catala-Roca, shine with their own light. We will show that the journey of architectural photography in Spain was not very different from the one described in the canonical books of the history of the genre. In this journey we have also sought to unearth forgotten and discarded images; images that document architecture, that transmit emotions, that make our imagination fl y, but above all, images that will remain as memories of things that existed and that will exist in them forever.
