Role of Innovation in the Financial Performance of Banking Sector: A Case of Developing Economy

The present paper aims to investigate the influence of the innovational factors on the financial performance of banking sector in Pakistan. Innovational factors include; process innovation, Product innovation, digital financial innovation, Marketing innovation and organizational innovation. To serve the purpose of this research, the data was collected from 305 respondents who were working at some managerial positions at the banks in Pakistan. The data was analysed using the partial least squares - structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that digital innovation is an important factor that spur the financial performance of the banks. Moreover, organizational and process innovation are also significant innovational factors that increase the financial performance. On the contrary, it is found out that marketing and product innovation are not considered as an inevitable factors that increase the financial performance of the banks. Thus, this paper suggests several policy implications for the commercial banks of Pakistan.
