Aiming at improving the usability of projection-based mixed reality user interface by providing users with haptic feedback, we propose a visuo-thermal projection by which visible and far-infrared lights are projected onto real world objects such as our bodies. We implemented a prototype system by realizing far-infrared projector. Two experiments were conducted to confirm the cross modal effects between visual and thermal sensations. The results of the experiments showed that visual stimuli could potentially affect the thermal sensation both temporally and spatially.
