Abstract

This chapter presents a manual to teach the readers how to perform the most common musculoskeletal regenerative injections such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow concentrate (BMC), and lipoaspirate (LA). Although there are unique aspects to most injections, there are general guidelines one should always apply based on the characteristics of both the tissue and pathology being treated. The chapter also presents specific injection techniques for those most commonly performed; however, these general guidelines can be applied to any tissue structure and pathology relating to tendon, muscle, ligament, joint, and bone pathology. For a greater breadth of specific ultrasound (US)-guided injection set up and approaches, the authors recommend an injection atlas, such as the “Atlas of Ultrasound Guided Injections”. However, it is important to note that such atlases describe US-guided techniques for corticosteroid injection. The chapter finally describes the important technical distinctions when one is performing a regenerative injection.
