Abstract

This article looks at the difficulties faced by autistic children when developing play skills in Amman, Jordan. Additionally, it seeks to promote the teaching of play skills to autistic children in Jordan and to discuss the best ways of dealing with problems that arise. To achieve these goals, a qualitative data elicitation method was used in the form of semi-structured interviews held with twenty parents and twenty teachers of autistic children with a view to learning more about their perspectives on play skills. These interviews helped identify several potential barriers to the teaching of play skills to autistic children. Both the parents and the teachers reported similar challenges, such as cognitive deficiency and a lack of understanding of autistic children’s needs. The study proposes solutions to help both parents and teachers overcome such obstacles and thus enhance autistic children’s play skills.
