AB - Obeying the rules of politeness is a major contributing factor to speak with a correct manner in all languages. It has been the safest and the most influential way to achieve a successful communication for ages. Being accepted as a way of speaking with humble and agreeable words, euphemisms are used in discourse instead of harsh or unpleasant words. They are mainly used to replace languages of different unpleasant topics, like sex, pregnancy, politics, WC, death, disability etc. What is more, the approaches to talk about impolite subjects or seeking alternatives to bitter terms are very close. Using Relevance theory to study euphemism helps to understand how speakers come up with new euphemism, and to compare and contract euphemisms for the same topic in English and Uzbek.

초록

Obeying the rules of politeness is a major contributing factor to speak with a correct manner in all languages. It has been the safest and the most influential way to achieve a successful communication for ages. Being accepted as a way of speaking with humble and agreeable words, euphemisms are used in discourse instead of harsh or unpleasant words. They are mainly used to replace languages of different unpleasant topics, like sex, pregnancy, politics, WC, death, disability etc. What is more, the approaches to talk about impolite subjects or seeking alternatives to bitter terms are very close. Using Relevance theory to study euphemism helps to understand how speakers come up with new euphemism, and to compare and contract euphemisms for the same topic in English and Uzbek.
