Prohibition of the stationing of weapons and prevention of an arms race in outer space

The United Nations has been involved in the question of the peaceful uses of outer space for almost three decades, as reflected by the relevant discussions in its various forums, particularly in the General Assembly and the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its subsidiary bodies. These deliberations and consequent negotiations through the years have led to the conclusion of several international agreements concerning both military and peaceful aspects of the use of outer space.
