Christian Ethics and the New Eugenics

This project is concerned with the relation between Christian ethics and what has come to be called "liberal" or the "new" eugenics, shorthand for a cluster of developments in reproductive medicine utilized to create idealized human persons. Part I identifies and sorts the claims of the new eugenics. Part II presents and analyzes the manner in which Christian ethicists have met, can meet, and should meet the challenge posed to them by the new eugenics. In conclusion, I recommend the work of Oliver O'Donovan and Paul Ramsey as representing "counsel" as a form of moral reasoning that is most faithful and flexible to meet this particular challenge.
