Abstract:
Cynara cardunculus L. is a herbaceous perennial plant with high lignocelullosic biomass yield that can be used as solid biofuel.
The main goal of the study has been the development of the Cynara cardunculus L. crop in dry conditions to use its lignocelullosic biomass.
For this aim trials have been carried out in five different locations in Spain (Andalucía, Aragón, Extremadura, Madrid and Navarra). The characteristics studied over a four-year period have been sowing time, sowing density and nitrogen fertilisation in the lignocelullosic biomass yield.
For the first years the plantations have produced figures of biomass over 10 t ha-1 per year.
