DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1999.486.10
Abstract:
The Arecaceae and the Asparagales are both interesting groups of plants in the Yucatan Peninsula. They are a distinctive feature of the landscape, and a large number of their species are important economic and cultural resources. Despite their relevance, a high percentage of the local population do not know aspects like life form, growth, horticulture, traditional uses, ecological status, etc. Thus, these collections are appropriate to increase the biological knowledge of visitors, and to discuss with them some environmental issues encouraging public awareness about environmental conservation for the welfare of future generations.
