Abstract:
It is known that cold treatment (5ºC) of the bulbs of Gladiolus tristis var. tristis during storage substantially brings forward the beginning of flowering in greenhouse cultivation.
In the study described in this paper the response to the above cold treatment of a new cultivar with certain morphological and colour differences from the traditionally cultivated species was tested. We found that it did not respond to the treatment wheter applied for 1, 2 or 3 weeks since flowering after treatment was simultaneous with the flowering of the control, to which cold had not been applied, and with that of the traditionally cultivated species.
