FACTORS AFFECTING SUCKER PRODUCTION IN HAZELNUT

Authors:   L. Radicati, I. Martino, G. Vergano
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1994.351.53
Abstract:
The influence of cultivar, propagation method and training system on the sucker production in hazelnut was investigated.

Cultivar suckering aptitude. 20-years old plants of different cultivars have been ranked from highly suckering (e.g. 'Tonda Gentile delle Langhe') to scarcely suckering (e.g. 'Negret'). Propagation method. 12-years old plants (cv Tonda Gentile delle Langhe), obtained from mound layerage produced yearly a significantly lesser amount of suckers than same aged plants obtained from rooted suckers. Training system. No significant differences were noted between the vase and the bush trained plants.
