Munchausen Syndrome, a rare and complex medical condition, presents a challenge to healthcare professionals. The syndrome's obscurity and intricacy can result in misdiagnosis and unnecessary treatments, leading to considerable financial, ethical, and legal consequences. Munchausen Syndrome represents a significant challenge for healthcare professionals. Early identification, along with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical and legal challenges, is essential to avoid potential harm to patients as well as legal disputes.

Steps to reproduce

An integrative literature review was conducted using the PICO strategy for sample selection. Several databases were consulted, including articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, with no restriction on the publication year, addressing ethical and legal issues related to Munchausen syndrome in medical practice. The research was guided by the question: "What are the ethical and legal challenges involving patients with Munchausen syndrome in medical practice?"
