디자인사고 기반 수업이 대학생의 통합적 역량 향상에 미치는 효과 연구

최근 교육 현장에서는 미래 인재 양성의 지향점으로 기초학습능력 뿐 아니라 사회성과 인성을 모두 포괄하는 통합적 역량 교육에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라, 본 연구는 역량 교육의 이상을 실행할 수 있는 실천 전략으로 디자인사고 기반 수업의 적용가능성을 살펴보고자 한다. 디자인사고 기반 수업은 일상의 여러 문제들을 학생들이 직접 해결하는 과정을 통해 지식과 기술 뿐 아니라, 타인에 대한 배려와 대인관계 등 인지적, 비인지적 영역에 대한 학습이 가능하므로, 미래 사회에 필요한 핵심 역량을 함양하는데 적합한 교수학습방법이 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 디자인사고 기반 수업이 역량 함양에 미치는 효과를 실증적으로 검증하기 위하여 서울 소재 C대학교 공과대학 재학생 99명을 대상으로 디자인사고 기반수업을 적용한 실험집단과 전통적인 강의 기반 수업을 적용한 통제집단을 구성하고, 핵심 역량을 구성하는 하위 요인인 공감능력, 협업능력, 문제해결능력에 대한 학습효과를 측정하여 비교분석하였다. 연구 결과, 디자인사고 기반 수업은 모든 영역에서 통계적으로 유의미한 향상을 보인 반면, 강의 기반 수업에서는 통계적으로 유의미한 향상이 나타나지 않았다. 이와같은 결과는 디자인사고 기반 수업이 역량 교육을 위한 효과적인 교수학습 전략이 될 수 있으며, 앞으로 미래지향적인 교육 개선을 위한 의미 있는 기초자료가 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

In the current educational field, there has been a growing interest in integrative competency education that encompasses both social skills and personality as well as basic learning capacities as a goal to foster future talents. In this situation, this study investigates the applicability of design thinking-based course as an appropriate strategy for implementing competency education. Design thinking-based course is expected to be a suitable teaching and learning method to develop core competencies required for future society, because it is devised to enable students to learn about both cognitive and non-cognitive areas, such as knowledge and technology as well as consideration of others and interpersonal relationship, through the process of solving various problems of daily life. A comparative experimental study was conducted on two student groups to examine the effect of design thinking-based course on competency building. The participants of this study were 99 engineering college students enrolled in C university located in Seoul, Korea. 47 students of experiment group were taking a design thinking-based course, while 52 students of control group were taking a traditional lecture-based course. In this study, the learning effect on empathy ability, collaborative ability, and problem solving ability, which are sub-factors of core competencies, were measured and compared. As results of the study, the design thinking-based course showed statistically significant improvement in all areas, whereas the statistically significant improvement was not observed in the lecture-based course. The results suggest that design thinking-based course can be an effective teaching and learning strategy for competency education and can be a meaningful source for future-oriented education reforms.
