An area that language learners struggles most is the prosody of sentences. This paper analyzes spoken data by heritage Japanese learners extracted from recordings of Oral Proficiency Interviews (OPI). In particular, we select sentences that show pro-drop features in the speech of these learners, and from the subset we analyze the prosodic features using Praat. The results are then compared with recordings produced by Japanese native speakers. Several loci of prosodic differences are identified: lexical pitch accent, post-positions, as well as global prosody. A naturalness test shows that native speakers find sentences with native-like prosodies to be more fit. We suggest that teaching materials in advanced Japanese courses consider these loci of prosodic features.
