대학도서관이 나아가야 할 방향을 고민할 때 반드시 고려해야 하는 사항은 소속 대학의 현황은 물론이고 대학이 직면한 문제까지 총체적으로 분석할 필요가 있다. 현재 대학은 입학자원의 감소로 인한 급격한 재정감소 위기에 처해 있는 상황이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 PEST+L분석을 통해 대학과 대학도서관을 둘러싸고 있는 정치, 경제, 사회, 기술, 법적 환경을 분석하였다. 연구결과, 대학도서관은 미래 교육․연구 혁신에 대응하는 서비스 제공, 창의 융합형 인재 양성과 문제해결형 학습지원, 창업생태계 구축 및 청년 일자리 창출 공간 제공, 기술이 대체할 수 없는 인간의 역량인 소프트 스킬(soft skills) 증진을 위해 디지털 교수학습 지원, 디지털 스칼러십, 디지털 역량개발, 디지털 인프라(연구지원 시스템 등), 디지털 경험 등 제공, 지역 인재 육성 및 지역발전 생태계 조성은 물론이고 지자체 및 지역 산업과 협력하고 지역의 필요를 충족시킬 수 있는 서비스 제공 등이 강조되는 것으로 나타났으며, 기존의 역할을 상당히 확장시켜야 하는 것으로 파악되었다.

When considering the future direction of university libraries, it"s essential to thoroughly analyze not only the current status of the university but also the challenges it faces. Universities are currently grappling with a sharp decline in financial resources due to a decrease in admissions. Therefore, in this study, a PEST+L analysis was conducted to examine the political, economic, social, technological, and legal environments surrounding universities and university libraries. The research findings suggest that university libraries need to adapt by providing services that respond to future educational and research innovations, fostering creative interdisciplinary talent, supporting problem-solving learning, establishing an entrepreneurial ecosystem, creating job opportunities for youth, enhancing soft skills that technology cannot replace, supporting digital teaching and learning, fostering digital literacy and skills development, providing digital infrastructure (such as research support systems), and offering digital experiences. Additionally, there is emphasis on nurturing local talent, contributing to regional development ecosystems, collaborating with local governments and industries, and providing services that meet the needs of the local community. It is evident that university libraries need to significantly expand their existing roles to meet these demands.
