Jornal Brasileiro de Psiquiatria (JBP) starts 2020 presenting this Special Section from a fruitful international partnership with Chilean-Brazilian Symposium of Neuroscience and Lifestyle: from neurobiology to mental health (CBSymposium). The symposium was supported by the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO). It was held in November 2019 in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil, with participation of Brazilian and Chilean researchers.

The main subject discussed was the relationship among physical activity, exercise training, diet, and mental health of children, adults, and elderly. Presentations showed the relevance of a suitable lifestyle and its neurobiological mechanisms in the brain. Discussion was mediated by many health professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, physical therapists, and physical educators. The event attracted about 200 students and health professionals. The audience was permitted to participate of discussion through questions.

The main point in the partnership between JBP and CBSymposium was the accepted high qualities full articles, which could be reviewed and accepted to be published in this Special Issue. As the JBP is a renowned scientific journal, many authors participated of the event and sent their studies. Several manuscripts were received, including topics as: “Prevalence of mental disorders in university students”, “Dementia in Long-term Care Institutions”, “Accuracy of cognitive tests to differentiate healthy individuals and Alzheimer’s disease patients”, “Spatial navigation as a predictor of cognitive decline of older adults”, “Sleep and physical activity in mental health”. Articles were firstly rigorously reviewed by the Special Scientific Board from CBSymposium. Secondly, approved manuscripts were revised by expert researchers from JBP. The fruitful partnership between JBP and CBSymposium emphasizes the relevance of Psychiatry, Mental Health, and Neuroscience as fields closely related. It must strengthen health’s professionals awareness to think science and clinical practice as a transdisciplinary approach.
