초록

This study explores the process of intercultural communication(IC) through one-to-one videoconferencing in English language learning. Since videoconferencing has the unique ability to support synchronous visual and aural interactions, and text-chat, it creates a new learning environment. Therefore, this study carefully examines the relationship between the developmental process of intercultural communication and the use of one-to-one videoconferencing, in particular, how this newly created language setting contributes to attitude changes in L2 learners as an aspect of intercultural learning, including engagement and the willingness to communicate with people from a different culture. The present case study analyzes the progress of IC in three steps over time: initial development, mid-point development, and final outcomes. As a result, it is found that the learner’s intercultural communication undergoes a steady development. In particular, the learner’s attitudes, including her willingness to engage and openness to others, are positively changed during the final stage.
