목적 : 다문화아동의 언어발달은 외국인 주민 증가와 함께 여러 분야에서 주요한 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. 언어치료사는 다문화아동의 언어 습득과 관련하여 직접적으로 서비스를 제공하는 직업군이다. 따라서 다문화아동의 언어발달에서 한국어 습득, 이중언어 습득, 외국인 부모의 모국어 습득에 대한 인식을 살펴보는 것은 의미있는 과정이라 할 수 있다.
방법 : 현상의 심층적인 이해를 위해서 혼합연구 방법을 사용하였다. 국내외 선행 연구를 분석하여 폐쇄형 문항과 개방형 문항으로 조사 문항을 개발하고 전국의 언어치료사에게 온라인으로 배포하였다. 연구 목적에 따라 빈도 분석, 카이제곱검증, 내용 분석을 이용하여 응답한 267명의 설문지를 분석하였다. 양적 데이터는 SPSS 통계프로그램을 이용하여 처리하였다.
결과 : 주요한 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 폐쇄형 문항 분석 결과, 응답한 언어치료사의 64.8%가 한국어 습득이 중점이 되어야 한다고 답하였으며, 이중언어 습득은 약 30%, 외국인 부모 언어 습득은 약 6%로 나타나 대다수가 한국어 습득이 중요하다고 생각하고 있었다. 둘째, 개방형 문항 분석 결과, 총 327개의 세부 내용이 추출되었다. 4개의 범주에 대하여 28개의 내용으로 분류되었으며, ‘한국어 습득 중점’이 232개로 가장 많았고 두 번째는 ‘이중언어 습득’이 82개, ‘외국인 부모의 언어 습득’이 12개, ‘언어발달 관련 요인’이 21개였다.
결론 : 언어치료사는 진단과 치료뿐만 아니라 주양육자나 부모교육을 통하여 다문화아동들이 언어 습득을 할 수 있도록 다양한 역할을 한다. 이러한 역할을 제대로 수행할 수 있도록 관련된 연구를 활발하게 진행하고 그 결과를 여러 측면에 반영해야 할 것이다.


Purpose : Language development of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) children is becoming a subject of interest in various fields along with the increase in foreign residents in Korea. Speech therapists directly provide services related to language acquisition for multicultural children. This study aims to investigate Korean language development, bilingual development, and foreign parents’ perceptions of native language acquisition.
Methods : To develop questions, closed-ended and open-ended questions were developed using a mixed research method. The questionnaire was distributed online to speech therapists across the country. Depending on the research purpose, the questionnaires of 267 respondents were analyzed using frequency analysis, chi-square test, and content analysis.
Results : First, as a result of closed-ended item analysis, 64.8% of the responding speech therapists responded that acquisition of Korean should be the focus, about 30% of them were about acquiring bilingual language, and about 6% were about acquiring foreign parents’ language. Second, as a result of open-ended question analysis, a total of 327 details were extracted from the data. The four categories were classified into 28 contents, with ‘Korean language acquisition focus’ being the most frequent with 232 items, followed by ‘bilingual acquisition’ with 82 items, ‘language acquisition by parents of foreign residents’ with 12 items, and ‘language development-related factors’ with 21 items.
Conclusions : Speech therapists play a role in providing various support to multicultural children. To properly perform this role, related research must be actively conducted and the results reflected in various aspects.
