Idiopathic generalized epilepsies in children, diagnostics and treatment

Epilepsies in children — a heterogeneous group of diseases, attacks of seizures are common for them and are caused by hypersynchronous discharge in the brain neurons. However, there are essential differences between the epilepsies in others. Idiopathic generalized epilepsies are forms of generalized epilepsies in which all seizures are initially generalized and no aetiology can be found other than a genetic predisposition towards these disorders. The fundamental diagnostic criteria for the group of epilepsies are normal neurological status, cognitive development not affected, without neuroradiologic signs on MRI, inter-ictal EEG shows normal background activity. The various syndromes of idiopathic generalized epilepsies differ mainly in age of onset. Most of the forms of epilepsies have favor prognosis. Prescription of therapy for patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsies depends from their correct diagnosis.
