Abstract

For a group H we denote by δ(H) the number of conjugacy classes of non-cyclic subgroups. Groups all of whose soluble subgroups H satisfy δ(H) ≤ 2 are classified. It is also shown that the derived length and Fitting length of a soluble group G are bounded by functions of δ(G).
