Abstract This paper reports the feature of wind fluctuations in Kyushu area for wind power energy development, comparing wind properties based on NeWMeK data to winds by the local wind distribution map of NEDO.... Our survey based on NeWMeK data of 122 locations on 2007 indicated that annual average wind speeds are about 3 m/s at a height of 30m through a year. And annual average intensities of turbulence were about 0.3 in most areas of Kyushu. Two representative observation points were selected for minute investigation of the fluctuation property of wind speed and direction. It was found that although most observation points indicated small daily mean of turbulent intensity in a high wind speed, several observation points indicated the large intensity of turbulence even in high daily mean wind speeds.show more
