Abstract

Thermally stable oxide thermoelectric elements and generator was fabricated for the purpose of decomposition of NOx in the exhaust gas using electrochemical cell by thermoelectric power assist from waste heat energy. The electrical and thermal properties of n-type ZnO based thermoelectric oxide materials were improved by compositional and structural control method in polycrystalline materials. Approximately 40 mW/cm2, electric power was generated by using Al-doped ZnO/Bi-doped Ca3Co4O9 thermoelectric oxide cell at dT=500 K in air. Furthermore, thermoelectric and electrochemical cell combined system was fabricated on the 8 mol%Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 (8YSZ) ceramics plates.
