Abstract:
Nuclear waste repositories are required to be effective for more than 1000 years. Thus, where concrete is used as a barrier and/or structural material, it is necessary in the design of these facilities to predict the degradation of concrete over this range. Acceleration tests are useful in quantitatively predicting such degradation. The authors have been studying an electrochemical test method to clarify its usefulness in predicting the chemical degradation of concrete in contact with water. This report describes results of diffusion and acceleration test and shows the usefulness of the method by comparing the quantity of Ca2+ ions dissolved in water and the degree of degradation obtained by electron probe micro- analyzer (EPMA).
