Abstract: Objective To observe whether the functional network in brain of mild cognitive impairment(MCI)patients have small-world property using resting-state BOLD-fMRI.Methods Totally 13patients with MCI(MCI group)and 17 healthy elders(NC group)were involved.Resting-state BOLD-fMRI data were acquired and preprocessed with SPM 5software.The whole brain was divided into 90regions,and the correlation coefficient of each pair of those 90regions was calculated.Taking the sparsity of matrix(Sparsity)as threshold, the correlation matrix was transferred to a network, and then the clustering coefficient(C)and shortest path length(L)were calculated.Ifγ=C/Crand>1andλ=L/Lrand≈1satisfied simultaneously(rand representing relative random networks),the network was considered to be a small-world network. Two samples t-test was adopted to test the differences of small-world parameters of brains’ functional network between MCI group and NC group. Results γ>1andλ≈1were satisfied in both groups within the range of 0.10≤Sparsity ≤0.40.γandδof MCI group were larger than those of NC group at each threshold, and the differences were significant at 0.10≤Sparsity≤0.18(P<0.05).λof MCI group was smaller than that of NC group at each threshold, and the differences were significant at Sparsity=0.18,0.28and 0.32(P<0.05).Conclusion The brain’s fMRI network of MCI patients have small-world property, which are enhanced compared with that of normal elders.
