Total number of nests found, percentage successful nests, and annual and monthly nest index (number of nests/10 h search effort) in South Kinangop, North Kinangop and Kedong.

Total number of nests found is based on the period January 2011 –March 2014. Nests failed due to a variety of reasons, including predation, abandonment, flooding and human destruction. Average nest indices are based on two complete calendar years (March 2011—February 2012, and March 2013 –February 2014; 24 months) and excluded the year in which flooding occurred (see Methods). Superscripts indicate subsets of significant differences (P<0.05) among locations in post-hoc tests, after mixed model analyses.
