Effects of oleic acid on cell survival in various human cancer cell lines.

Human gastric cancer cell lines (A) and breast cancer cell lines (B) were starved for 12 hours and then incubated with 0.5% BSA as the control or 400 µM BSA-bound oleic acid for the indicated time period (hours). The cell viability was determined by an MTT assay and expressed as a percentage of the control cells. The values are the mean ± SD, n = 3; **p<0.01 vs. BSA at the indicated time points. Student’s t test. (C) The cells were incubated with 0.5% BSA or 400-µM BSA-bound oleic acid for the indicated time points, and the cell proliferation was examined using BrdU ELISA.
