The geographic positions and the layout of plots in three sites belonging to the meadow, typical and desert steppes on the map of Mongolia, respectively.
In each site, three 34 m × 14 m plots were interspaced by ca. 100 m and contained 108 subplots of 2 m × 2 m. The filled and open squares in plots stand for subplots and inter-subplot spaces, respectively.
