Abstract: Aim: To analyze the roles of three collagenases( MMP-1,MMP-8 and MMP-13) in the pathogenesis of aggressive periodontitis( AgP). Methods: The expressions of MMP-1,MMP-8 and MMP-13 in gingival tissue of 30 patients with AgP and 35 healthy controls were detected by immunohistochemistry method. Results: Low expressions of MMP-1,MMP-8 and MMP-13 were shown in healthy control group. Higher expressions of MMP-1 and MMP-8 were found in the AgP group compared with those of healthy control group( Z = 3. 980 and 2. 990,P < 0. 05). Conclusion: MMP-1 and MMP-8may play an important role in the development of AgP.
