Abstract

A method is proposed for determining the birefringence induced by thermal, electrical, and mechanical stresses. It is shown that the given method can be used to determine the quality of optical crystals. The accuracy with which one can determine the coordinates of various kinds of crystal defects is determined by the diameter of the laser beam.
